Conflict - Resolution

The Japanese symbology of enso ('circle') represents a circle of enlightenment - the transforming experience where spirit is without beginning or end. In daily living, transformation comes from introspection and oftentimes conflicting impulses. This series is a visual representation of the movement toward transformation by exploring these opposing ideas.

Layers of encaustic were applied, cord soaked in ink was pulled across the surface and then multiple layers of ink were brushed onto the surface. As the thick ink dried, it flaked off in some places, enhancing the idea of transformation as an evolving and challenging process.
